The Washington Post Express is conducting a Best of 2016 survey, and a number of local bars and stores are on the list. The selections were determined by WaPo staff so there are some notable businesses absent from their list. I'm sure our local places would love to have your vote (I put my recommendations in parentheses). I know I'm voting for all the Petworth and Park View places because... Petworth News.
Read MoreOn Friday, August 19th, I drove north on 13th Street towards Roosevelt Senior High School for the official ribbon-cutting. There ceremony was set up to unveil, as Councilmember Brandon Todd described the newly renovated school, the city’s “$140 million investment.” As I got closer to my destination, the steeple of the school came into view; I was filled with mixed feelings. I knew it would be the beginning of a new era for my alma mater.

Residents met with MPD and DC gov leadership at the Hamilton Recreation Center on Wednesday evening, August 24th to discuss the recent shooting at Hamilton Park on August 18th and talk through the issue. The takeaway is that residents are upset, and DC agencies don't have concrete strategies.

The Washington Area Bicyclist Association (WABA) and the DC Office of Planning secured a grant for a creative placemaking project and are planning an open streets event in Petworth in Spring 2017.

MPD talked about 14th Street, DDOT presented and answers questions from the ANC (sans Director Dormsjo), and the topic of bike lanes and safety along New Hampshire Avenue got both the commissioners and the community in a tizzy.
