This follow-up article by the WashCityPaper looks at the status of the little playground two years after Petworth News first reported on it.
“The National Park Service demolished an unsafe playground but then abandoned the little park near Grant Circle. Neighbors have been looking for a solution ever since.”
Bonus Grant Circle History from Petworth News: This isn’t the first time children have been displaced from Grant Circle Park. In 1922, The Evening Star reported that the land within Grant Circle would be converted into a park space in order to prevent the neighborhood children from playing baseball at the site.

FYI... 🚧 Taylor St NW between Kansas and 13th will be a bit of a mess as @ddotdc repairs sidewalks, curbs, gutters and wheelchair ramps. Necessary work, to be sure!
Work begins Monday, 12/8 and goes through Saturday, 12/13 (7am to 6pm). The project is expected to be complete by December 19th (weather permitting).
The Petworth Library will close for renovations on December 11th. The goal of this renovation is to maintain the existing facility and provide a refresh that will ensure the library continues to meet evolving neighborhood needs. Interim services will be offered at the Mt. Pleasant Library or by US Mail.

Refusing to investigate 911 call mistakes, OUC continues years-long failures, putting property and lives at unnecessary risk
On July 3, 2025, a Petworth resident called 911 for a family member experiencing a medical emergency. Luckily, Fire and EMS Station #24 is located only two blocks away from her home, meaning help should have been there extremely fast. However, that didn’t happen — the @oucdc operator made a mistake and sent the call to Takoma Station #22. OUC keeps making mistakes year after year, costing precious time, property damage and potentially lives.
