DC should invest in middle-class housing affordability [WaPo]

No one is arguing that this legislation is a panacea for affordable housing or rising tax costs. Yes, renters are feeling the same financial pressure as homeowners. We can and should do more for renters. And we can and should look at increasing benefits through programs such as Schedule H. However, we ignore the plight of homeowners who cannot qualify for these programs at our own peril.

The District must decide if we are to have a government that responds to the needs of all our residents or one that shuns the concerns of our middle class.

Paying attention to the wrong thing

The Washington Post picked up the story of ANC 4C Commissioner Taalib-Din Uqdah's idea of building walkways underneath Grant and Sherman Circles to ensure pedestrian safety. Unlike the Greater Greater Washington story that looked at the realistic problems with tunnels, the WaPo reporter, Perry Smith, doesn't do research into the issue on why pedestrian safety is a priority. Instead, she focuses on the wrong aspect, and calls the tunnel idea "interesting to envision." So are jetpacks. Jetpacks are interesting to envision, too. And they're just as unrealistic.

Washington Post to publish Petworth News

I'm really happy to say that the Washington Post has extended an offer to publish articles from Petworth News on their website in the All Opinions Are Local section. 

I accepted (obviously) and signed an agreement with them a week or so ago. This is pretty cool, and means greater exposure for our neighborhood and the blog.
