After many years and a $140 million renovation budget, Roosevelt High School, home of the Rough Riders, opened for students on Monday, August 22nd. The new class will graduate in 2021. Read some of the statements made at the ribbon cutting and see some pictures.

Did you know that phone books waste a ton of resources? According to Vox Media: "All that wasteful printing produces roughly 3.57 million tons of greenhouse gases and consumes billions of gallons of water, despite the fact that recycled paper is generally used. Furthermore, municipalities pay millions of dollars to trash or recycle stacks of books that haven't even been removed from their shrink-wrapping. There must be a better way."

Read MoreThe DC Department of Transportation (DDOT) released draft recommendations for the Rock Creek East II Livability study, their proposal for traffic changes to the Petworth area and Ward 4. The goal of the study is to identify ways for residents and visitors in the Petworth area to commute safely, whether by car, bike or on foot. The guidelines include recommendations for road improvements, bike lanes, crosswalks and more.
