On Thursday, February 7, 2019 there was an explosion of gunshots at 5th and Kennedy Street NW. Multiple people were involved, but miraculously, considering the number of shooters, it seems no one was injured. MPD released a video of the shooting from a local retail establishment. Kennedy Street received a Main Streets designation recently, leading to streetscape improvements like new sidewalks, benches and trash cans that make the area mare visually appealing and welcoming. The Kennedy Street Development Corporation led the effort for the designation, and continues to work for community-focused improvements and opportunities.
