On Thursday, February 7, 2019 at approximately 3:30pm there was an explosion of gunshots at 5th and Kennedy Street NW. Multiple people were involved, but miraculously, considering the number of shooters, it seems no one was injured.

From MPD’s report:

On February 7, 2019, at approximately 3:30pm, Fourth District officers responded to a call for sounds of gunshots. Upon their arrival they observed several shell casing near the intersection of 5th and Kennedy ST NW. At least one vehicle parked in the block was struck by gunfire. At this time, we don’t have any injured persons, only damaged property. We also do not have any lookout to give the public at this time.

MPD released a video of the shootout, showing what appears to be at least three men shooting indiscriminately toward each other:

There was no further information available from MPD, according to Fourth District Commander Randy Griffin. He said, “Fourth District detectives are currently investigating the incident. As this is an ongoing investigation, no additional information regarding the investigative process can be released at this time.”

There will be a public meeting to discuss the shooting on Friday, February 15th at 5:00 pm with MPD Captain Franklin Porter at Blandi's Child Learning Center (504 Kennedy St NW).

Commander Griffin did want residents to know that the area has “Continuous police coverage 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”

The case is being investigated by Fourth District detectives. Anyone with any information is encouraged to call MPD on 202-727-9099.
