Check out the renovated Roosevelt High School on Saturday, Jan 30th

Roosevelt High School has been undergoing renovations for a long time, and has been the source of some community frustration, as current Roosevelt students have been stuck over in MacFarland Middle School. MacFarland had a host of problems that DCPS and the city finally fixed after some loud parent and community complaints.

Now DCPS is inviting parents and members of the community to tour the renovated school.

The Celebrate Petworth festival is becoming one of the biggest events in Petworth. Now going into its third year, they're looking to volunteers to join the steering committee and help shape this summer's next festival. (See a photo gallery from last summer's festival.) David has been passionate in his work to tell the story of Kennedy Street, of the ways the DC government has been letting blighted properties sit, a corridor stagnate, and a community not receiving the attention it deserves. And his work is paying off.

Elections, exceptions and more: ANC 4C January meeting notes

The January meeting of Advisory Neighborhood Commission 4C was Wednesday, January 13th. The evening was the last night for Commissioner Kathleen Crowley, who resigned her seat on the commission. The ANC voted on new officers, talked about Cornrows & Co, reviewed an upcoming alcohol licensing meeting, talked about upcoming traffic changes at Powell, an agreement for Ruta del Vino and a special exception vote for a developer.

That said, here's what happens when business owners don't understand how to connect to their community, and the community doesn't trust the business owners.
