No one has registered to run as an Advisory Neighborhood Commissioner to represent the newly redrawn Single Member District (SMD) 4C01 as of the 10 August deadline. If you live in the SMD, you can do a write-in campaign by filling out a form and then getting your neighbors to vote for you!

Redistricting the current SMD/ANC boundaries was necessary because over the last 10 years Ward 4 grew by almost 10,000 residents. Each SMD consists of about 2,000 people, so new SMDs were required to be drawn to rebalance the map. Now they need new Commissioners. Want to run?

For the past month and a half, the Ward 4 Redistricting Task Force has been working to remap the boundaries of Advisory Neighborhood Commissions (ANCs) and the Single Member Districts (SMDs) they contain in Ward 4. According to the 2020 Census, over 8,000 people have moved into Ward 4 , so the SMD boundaries must be redrawn to comply with the 2,000 people per SMD requirement. They really want your input.

Ever since moving to Brightwood Park, I’ve wondered why my ANC is 4B, while the other three corners of my intersection belong to ANC 4D. My Single Member District 4B05 is bisected by Missouri Avenue, a large physical divide between the two halves of my SMD. For things like requesting parking zones on my block or finding out how to get speed bumps, I’ve had to deal with two SMD Commissioners and two ANCs.

On Monday, July 12th, ANC 4C voted to remove Commissioner Paul Johnson as chairperson on a vote of 8-2 in favor. Commissioner Johnson and Commissioner Yvette Marbury-Long voted against the motion. While Johnson will no longer be serving as chairperson of ANC 4C, he will still serve as a commissioner representing the 4C07 Single Member District.
