Roosevelt High School has a robust international studies program, managed by Julian Hipkins III, the Global Studies Coordinator at the school. The school is hosting students from Spain and France in October, and is looking for a dozen or so families in the local area to host visiting students from France for a two week stay here in Petworth.

Councilmember’s Corner: Addressing maternal mental health disorders 

One significant but often overlooked component of maternal and infant well-being is mental health. According to the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, at least 20% of mothers suffer from pregnant and postpartum mood and anxiety disorders.

After studying the problem more closely, I knew something had to be done. I am proud to report that legislation I introduced in 2017 to improve maternal mental healthcare has recently become official law in the District of Columbia.

ABRA decides not to act on request to revoke the Trump Hotel's alcohol license

In a story first brought to light by Petworth News, seven members of the religious community in DC and Advisory Neighborhood Commission 4C submitted a complaint to the Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration (ABRA) to have the alcohol license for the Trump International Hotel on Pennsylvania Avenue revoked. This week, ABRA made their decision.

When Lighthouse Yoga Center was notified by our landlord in August that we needed to be out of our space in 30 days, we were heartbroken. We’re Petworth’s only source for high-quality Hatha Yoga, and we’re DC’s only Kundalini Yoga studio. Closing the studio would present a big loss to Petworth’s quality of life. 

But our neighbors weren’t ready to let us go!
