Petworthpalooza music show at Celebrate Petworth

Taylor Ferrell performs with the Treads at Petworthpalooza

The Petworthpalooza show at the 2017 Celebrate Petworth Festival was a big success -- hundreds came out to enjoy free music from local area musicians, $5 beer and the pleasure of hanging out with their neighbors. So we're doing it again!

Also check out these great events:

Located in the gravel lot next to Capital Hydroponics (enter from the alley next to Petworth Citizen and the Petworth mural off of Upshur Street). Here's a look at the musicians who will perform. Big thanks to Andrew Dana and Chris Brady from Timber Pizza for their help with the permits, and to Capitol Cider House for helping out at the event. Cider House owner Jared Fackrell will be on hand at the Palooza serving draft beer and cider!

The Petworthpalooza is sponsored by Nest DC real estate.

Show starts at 1pm on September 8th during the Celebrate Petworth Festival

(If it rains, the Palooza will be held inside 810 Upshur Street NW.)

The schedule and band list:

  • 1pm: Aaron Maisler
  • 2pm: The Treads
  • 3pm: Tommi
  • 4pm: The Iris Bell

Aaron Maisler takes a highly independent approach to his music. Best described as an indie pop musician, he uses his knowledge of guitars and musical devices to create songs that can range from downbeat and bluesy to upbeat with a synthy edge. Aaron's music flows from his experiences in life as he traveled the world, finally settling in Florida, where he became a working musician. He soon found himself wondering what life was like elsewhere, not just in the US, but around the world. So he decided to leave and ended up teaching English in Yatsushiro, Japan. He quickly became known as a musician and wound up becoming one of the go-to artists for all of the city’s festivals, including the Yatsushiro Firework Festival, which had an attendance of around 100,000 people.

The Treads are a DC-based band that plays alt-country, bluegrass, roots rock, Southern Gothic and Americana - mostly originals, but some covers, too. They bring together a diverse musical heritage, from the Mississippi Delta to the Virginia Piedmont, from Florida swamps to the Allegheny hills.

Tommi is a local recording artist of Sierra Leonean descent. Tommi has performed around the DMV at venues like Wolf Trap and The Kennedy Center, in addition to performing all over DC and NY. She was recently featured on Fox TV's "Beyond The Lens," and a video of her singing a Gladys Knight classic "Neither One of Us" in Chinatown has reached over 1,300,000 views on Facebook. Make sure you wish her a happy birthday at the show as she releases her first single "Kryptonite" on all digital platforms on Saturday during the Palooza!

The Iris Bell has crafted a distinctive style of Americana noted for its lush harmonies and soulful acoustic rhythms. Playing festivals and shows across the region, the band is both raucous and melodic, making music that goes from foot stomping to haunting. Switching instruments frequently, the five members of The Iris Bell use their range to bring a fresh sound to the world of indie folk.  The band is based in Washington, DC and formed in 2013.
