AFRH skips DC Zoning and Comp Plan, goes the federal action route

A recent article from the Washington Business Journal reports that the Armed Forces Retirement Home (aka the Old Soldier's Home) has decided to bypass the normal comprehensive planning processes in DC for the redevelopment of their property and move forward with redeveloping 80 acres using a "federal action." In fact, AFRH will be the body to give out work permits and certificates of occupancy, not DC government.

Highlands' owners raise awareness and funds for an issue near to their heart

The owners of the Highlands, Moe and Berty Garay, lost their daughter Gabriela to a brain aneurysm last September. Out of the pain of that loss, they've decided to honor Gaby's memory through supporting a non-profit that was important to her. On June 2nd they are hold a fundraising event to benefit building a home for disabled adults in Moneague, Jamaica called Gaby's House.

Piney Branch Parkway to get repaved, pleasing car struts and driver backs

Piney Branch Parkway, the inlet from Petworth onto the Rock Creek Parkway and destinations north and south, is made up of about three feet of flat road surface... and about a mile of holes, gouges, pits, cracks and bumps that drivers either swerve around or sacrifice their cars' struts to the terrible road. ANC 4C May meeting: Carbon rebates, development projects and MacFarland construction

ANC 4C Commissioners met Wednesday, May 9th at the Petworth Library for their May meeting. The Commission covered a lot of ground, but highlights include debate on a Carbon Rebate and Fee Resolution, discussions about potential construction projects and approval of after-hours construction at MacFarland Middle School.
