Absinthe was popular once in the United States, and then it became illegal (well, not really illegal, but regulated out of availability). But now this unusual spirit is back and ready for your enjoyment, and Chantal Tseng and Dan Searing are ready to wow you with it and many other interesting drinks every fifth Thursday evening in the Reading Room at Petworth Citizen. The first event is tomorrow, Thursday March 31st at 7pm.

Toli Moli does another pop-up day featuring their acclaimed falooda

The mother-daughter team that makes up Toli Moli, Jocelyn Law-Yone and Simone Jacobson, are having another pop-up restaurant event, this time in Columbia Heights at Thip Khao (3462 14th Street NW) on Tuesday, March 29th, from 3:00pm – 10:00 pm. Their authentic layered dessert falooda drinks were met with a lot of love when they did a pop-up at Eat's Place back in January.

Now, they are looking to "sweeten snack time with the introduction of Burmese tea leaf salad and two new falooda flavors: Cherry Blossom and Bourbon-Cassis."

Join Slash Run & Brittany Kademian for a cancer research fundraiser

Brittany Kademian is getting ready to run the Boston marathon on April 18th in honor of those who are fighting cancer. Working with the “Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge” program, Brittany’s goal is to reach $10,000 in donations for cancer research and cancer care for those that need it most. Brittany is partnering with Petworth’s own Slash Run (201 Upshur St NW) to hold a fundraiser this Thursday, February 25th (5pm -12am).

Photos from Walls of Books Grand Opening

The areas's newest bookstore, Walls of Books, officially opened up Saturday morning with a ribbon cutting, a custom cake and lots of guests and customers. It's a risky business opening up a new retail establishment, especially a bookstore. Looking at the inside of Walls of Books, located at 3325 Georgia Avenue, I think owner Pablo Sierra has something great happening.

One of the benefits of having a literary establishment in our neighborhood is the opportunity to meet writers and historians and listen to author readings of their work.

On Wednesday, February 3rd at 7pm, Upshur Street Books (827 Upshur St NW) is hosting Dr. Amina Hassan, who will read from her new book, Loren Miller: Civil Rights Attorney and Journalist.

Toli Moli Burmese dessert concept pops-up at EatsPlace

Holy moly, these desserts look good! A new mother-daughter team are trying out their Burmese dessert concept at a pop-up in Park View at EatsPlace (3607 Georgia Avenue NW) at the end of January. Called Toli Moli!, the new pop-up is the passion of Chef Jocelyn (JoJo) Law-Yone and her daughter, Simone Jacobson, and will open on Saturday, January 30th from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm.
