An unscientific survey about the Grant Circle one-lane test

You probably noticed the traffic barrels around Grant Circle this week and the new traffic pattern. The bright orange barrels aren't a new landscaping trend, rather part of a test being run by DDOT to see how cutting the circle down to one lane affects surrounding traffic, and whether that change enhances pedestrian safety.

Petworth News is conducting an unscientific survey about the experiment through Monday, May 29th. We'll share the results here later next week and will make sure that DDOT sees your comments.

DDOT meeting on Grant Circle status, Tuesday, May 2nd

DDOT has announced a community meeting to discuss Grant Circle. The meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 2 from 6:30-8:00 PM at EL Haynes Public Charter School, (4501 Kansas Avenue NW), in the gymnasium.

There are two main concerns expressed about DC Superior Courts taking ownership of the old Petworth post office at 4211 9th Street NW, specifically its location close to the burgeoning Upshur Street retail and restaurants, and the lack of communication with the community about the facility.

Petworth used to have a convenient post office at 4211 9th Street NW. It was shut down a couple of years ago, and stories about what was to come in that place were circulating. At one time I had heard it was to be a senior services center, but now we know what’s coming to the space.

Spring cleaning for old paint cans - drop 'em off for recycling!

PaintCare is back this spring with a unique cleaning event – an opportunity to drop off old paint cans free-of-charge at the Anacostia Recreation Center on Saturday, April 8. Regulations prevent homeowners and contractors from disposing of the paint via regular trash collection. But, thanks to DC’s Paint Stewardship Law, getting rid of that old paint just easy.

There's the Petworth Jazz Project, which is awesome. Professional musicians playing for free to a crowd of neighbors enjoying DC summer evenings? Awesome. Community Carrot, the new non-profit from David Sheon is having a ribbon cutting ceremony and will open its doors at 508 Kennedy St NW for their first class of "entrepreneurs in training" on Saturday, March 25th at 2pm. They'd love to have the community come out to support them.
