It’s all about the neighborhood
In celebration of National Poetry Month, DCPL is hosting its annual Haiku Contest. Poets of all ages are welcome; residents aged 6 and up are invited to submit two haiku either online or with a paper entry at participating libraries.

Read MoreOn Thursday, April 28th, poetry and song rang out across the south lawn of President Lincoln’s Cottage. The Cottage welcomed about 150 people for “Ride the Verse,” the annual poetry slam organized by the Roosevelt High School Poetry Club with the support of Friends of Roosevelt, a non-profit dedicated to supporting global students, the arts, athletics and more at Roosevelt.

In a recent post on the DC SCORES blog, Perspectives from Powell, Part II: Pumpkins and personifications, writing coordinator Mira Smith talks about visiting poet Gowri Koneswaran, from the American Poetry Museum, who led a poetry workshop for the Powell students, teaching personification and word play to express feelings and ideas through inanimate objects.
