Compete in the "Ward 4 Out Loud" slam poetry competition and open mic for students

Calling all Ward 4 young poets!

The Ward 4 Out Loud Slam Poetry Competition and Open Mic is a slam poetry program for middle and high school students who reside or attend school in Ward 4.

Interested students can register for Ward 4 Out Loud, taking place Saturday, February 3, 2024 at Busboys and Poets Takoma, hosted by poetry slam champion Regie Cabico. Competition winners and runner-ups win cash prizes!

Following the event, select middle and high school students will be invited to participate in five weekly workshops with Regie Cabico to hone vocal, writing and performance skills. Cabico won top prizes in three National Poetry Slams, was featured on two seasons of “Def Poetry Jam” on HBO, and was also featured in MTV’s “Free Your Mind” Spoken Word Tour.

Participants will develop three original spoken word compositions and will be encouraged to participate in the “Words on Fire” city-wide slam competition, organized by the DC Commission for the Arts and Humanities.

Dates for the Ward 4 Out Loud Team workshops: Saturdays February 10, 17, 24, and March 9 & 16, 1-3pm, Shepherd Park Library
