It’s all about the neighborhood
Around 3:10 in the afternoon of Tuesday, September 14th, a fire broke out at between Georgia Ave and Warder Streets NW. The house at 719 Quebec Place was on fire, with smoke pouring from the upstairs windows. One person did not survive their injuries.

After two hours, and believing they had completely quenched the fire, DCFD left. Renee spent the night at her cousin’s and hoped that the damage would be repairable. Tragically, the fire re-ignited, and firefighters returned around 5am to find the house going up in flames.

She managed to get out of the apartment, even as she lost all of her clothes and possessions. One man, a father of a young child at LAMB charter, perished in the blaze.

She rushed her kids and her mother outside, and watched helpless as a fire destroyed the home she rented, and killed their two cats which they were unable to rescue. Now her family is living in a hotel as they look to rebuild their possessions, and feel blessed they have each other and that no one was hurt. They need help getting back on their feet and into a home.
