The Mother’s Day Free Market is open to any families who are looking for FREE gently used maternity, baby, and children’s clothing, strollers, toys, gears, and more. Items are geared toward children 0-6. If you have donations, here’s a map of local places to drop off materials.

Read MoreWillow Fashion at 843 Upshur Street NW is sponsoring their 2nd Annual Tampon Drive to collect the menstrual products for those who can’t easily afford to purchase them. The event is in celebration of Women's History Month and International Women's Day and benefits the District Alliance for Safe Housing. It’s the store’s way of honoring women and ensuring they have access to basic necessities.
You can drop off tampon and pad donations at both of Willow’s shops all month. If you donate 100+ products on or after International Women’s Day (March 8th), you’ll get a free sticker patch of an inspiring woman.

Read MoreI'm a big fan of the Friends of the Soldiers Home, and try to volunteer with them when I can. They do great events like "Jingo night" (like bingo but with pictures instead of numbers) as well as a fun Saloon night, where volunteers chat with and serve drinks and food to veterans during live music and other events. They also put on the July 4th events, Oktoberfest and other community events at the Armed Forces Retirement Home.
They're looking for support from neighbors to help meet their funding goals. As we move into the holiday season, bear in mind that every dollar helps.

The Petworth Community Market (and other local businesses) are accepting non-perishable Thanksgiving-related food donations at their food donation bin this Saturday, November 14th. All proceeds support the Mary’s Center 2015 Thanksgiving Food Drive.

Join President Lincoln’s Cottage on September 19, from 10am to 2pm, for their free annual Homecoming celebration inspired by the Lincoln family’s time living on the grounds of the Soldiers’ Home, here in the Petworth neighborhood.
