Update on shooting on Illinois, sounds of gunshots on Decatur tonight

It's been a busy day for the officers and detectives of the Metropolitan Police Department in PSA 407. There was a shooting around 4pm this afternoon on the 4500 block of Illinois Avenue, then this evening MPD responded to a report of the sounds of gunshots at 8th and Decatur Street.

According to MPD, at approximately 4pm, MPD responded to the 4500 block of Illinois Ave NW to investigate the call for sounds of gunshots. When they arrived, officers located an adult male suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.  The victim was taken to Medstar Hospital, but he succumbed to his wounds and died. He was identified as 21-year old Josiah Jones of NW DC.

There is a look out for a light complexion Black or Hispanic male wearing a black jacket with a hood and gray or khaki pants.  MPD Chief Lanier, Assistant Chief Groomes and Ward 4 Councilmember Brandon Todd were on scene afterwards.

8th & Decatur Streets

Then this evening around 8pm, there were calls for the sounds of gunshots at 8th and Decatur Streets. MPD responded and located two shell casing but no injured persons or damaged property.  

According to a reader, 16 shell casings were found. (!)

The suspect was reportedly seen being driven away in a tan color vehicle.  No tag number given.
