A homeowner on Kansas Avenue NW, near Quincy and Randolph, reported that someone (or a couple of someones?) stole a large ceramic planter from her front yard in the middle of the night. The planter was full of soil and a plant, and at about 2 1/2 feet long and a foot and a half tall, was pretty heavy.

At least 50 people poured into the Park View Recreation Center for what was supposed to have been a regularly scheduled United Neighborhood Coalition public safety meeting, but had been hastily refocused to address Monday’s murder and the circumstances that led to it. On the afternoon of Saturday, February 1st, a car drove past the Petworth playground at 8th and Taylor Streets NW, shots rang out from the car, children and parents dove for cover under slides, and a young man was shot in the foot. He’s not talking about what happened.

In the early evening of Thursday, February 13th, MPD was involved in a shootout with a suspect in an alley off of 8th and Upshur. At least six shots rang out, residents walking home dove for cover, an officer was injured, and after a pursuit with police, a young man was gravely shot.

Buna Coffeehouse, located at 4400 Georgia Avenue, was broken into overnight on January 2nd. The thieves broke a window on the side of the coffee shop and stole money from the register. Fortunately, Buna has a lot of security cameras, so MPD was able to get images of the people responsible for the burglary.

A community meeting on repeat violence brings questions, but answers and solutions are slow

On Monday September 16, 2019, two incidents of gun fire impacted our community near 4th and Taylor Streets. In total, 40+ rounds of bullets were shot in the direction of a house and/or individuals in our community. Bullets hit several houses and the community is scared and angry.
