Toli Moli does another pop-up day featuring their acclaimed falooda

The mother-daughter team that makes up Toli Moli, Jocelyn Law-Yone and Simone Jacobson, are having another pop-up restaurant event, this time in Columbia Heights at Thip Khao (3462 14th Street NW) on Tuesday, March 29th, from 3:00pm – 10:00 pm. Their authentic layered dessert falooda drinks were met with a lot of love when they did a pop-up at Eat's Place back in January.

Now, they are looking to "sweeten snack time with the introduction of Burmese tea leaf salad and two new falooda flavors: Cherry Blossom and Bourbon-Cassis."

Wendy's on Georgia Ave closed Thursday for health violation

According to the DC Department of Health, the Food Safety & Hygiene Inspection Services Division (FSHISD) shut down the Wendy's at 3900 Georgia Avenue NW today for a health violation.

CM Todd takes questions, a new commish, Zoning issues galore & Little Coco’s: ANC 4C March meeting notes

The March meeting for the Advisory Neighborhood Commission 4C was Wednesday, March 9th. I thought it would be a long meeting, and it ended up going right to the 9pm hard stop (the library closes at 9pm). A new Commissioner joined the ANC, Councilmember Brandon Todd spoke and answered questions, concerns about liquor licenses in 4C came up, as did about a bazillion Zoning issues and Gordon Banks, one of the owners of the upcoming Italian restaurant Little Coco’s, spoke about their upcoming outdoor seating.

Slim's gets an opening date, new 3rd Floor available

I think it's safe to say that Petworth area residents have been waiting in anticipation for the opening of Slim's Diner (4201 Georgia Avenue NW) for quite some time. There were hopes of a Fall opening, then maybe Winter... and now, according to owner Paul Ruppert, if everything goes well with the electrician finishing his work, the diner will open on...

Crane & Turtle to close in April, Ruppert thinking of what's to come

According to Paul Ruppert, the critically (and customer) acclaimed Crane & Turtle restaurant (828 Upshur St NW) is planning to close on April 24th.

"Crane & Turtle is so directly tied to [Chef Makoto Hamamura] that we decided it makes sense to create a new restaurant," co-owner Paul Ruppert told me. "Brainstorming ideas right now. Happy to have suggestions."

Join Slash Run & Brittany Kademian for a cancer research fundraiser

Brittany Kademian is getting ready to run the Boston marathon on April 18th in honor of those who are fighting cancer. Working with the “Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge” program, Brittany’s goal is to reach $10,000 in donations for cancer research and cancer care for those that need it most. Brittany is partnering with Petworth’s own Slash Run (201 Upshur St NW) to hold a fundraiser this Thursday, February 25th (5pm -12am).

Alfie’s opens on Tuesday & it’s great

The new Thai / Southeast Asian restaurant by Food Network Star chef Alex McCoy and his partners Marc Dosik and Hunter Campbell, is ready to go. They had a soft launch party last night, and the food and the drink, unsurprisingly, are great. It’s just not on Upshur Street, not yet anyway.

I stopped by Alfie’s early in the day to talk with Hunter Campbell and Alex McCoy about the upcoming opening, and their plans for the Mothership and Upshur locations.

"Penny Brew" coffee pop-up to open on Mondays at Domku

Starting next Monday, January 18th, a new coffee and events concept called Penny Brew will start serving fresh-brewed coffees and small eats at Domku. Open every Monday from 8am to 3pm, Penny Brew is the passion of Rachel Pace, who’s hoping the pop-up will give her the experience (and community feedback) she needs to open her own shop next summer.
