CM Silverman, Grants and an attempt at Decorum; notes from ANC 4C June meeting

The Advisory Neighborhood Commission 4C meeting on June 8th was as interesting and at times as tumultuous as any of the meetings this year have been. The main sticking point for this meeting was Commissioner Jonah Goodman's effort to approve a Code of Conduct for ANC 4C. Also at the meeting, At-Large DC Councilmember Elissa Silverman spoke about her team's projects and successes with vacant and blighted properties, commissioners gave various updates and Goodman also got the updated Grant requirements passed. It was time to level up on my fitness goals

Once upon a time I felt like I was physically fit. I used to run, was a monster on the spin bike and boxed twice a week (I was a windmill with the jump rope). Nowadays, I feel like it’s quite possible that I’m made out of barely flexible PVC pipe instead of muscle. I also have a 5 year old and my mid-40s coming up, so I decided it was time to make a change, and I wanted local help to get me back on track. An evening of food, drinks and the Gotham Knight at the Third Floor

I just found out that the Third Floor (the event space in the Murrell building above Slim’s) is hosting another “In Good Company” food and literary event on Saturday night, June 11th. And to my geekish delight, this time it’s about “The Caped Crusade: Batman and the Rise of Nerd Culture.”

The second installment of Trey Graham’s cocktails-and-conversation series “In Good Company” combines food, drinks and discussion over interesting art, books and cuisine.

Why are the "Ward 4 Democrats" skipping the Ward 4 election?

Each person running for Ward 4 Council has offered different strategies and perspectives for what the Ward needs, yet each shares at least one common fact: they are all running as Democrats in a partisan election. The local Ward 4 Democrats, an organization that was created in 1975 to support partisan politics on behalf of the Democratic Party in the Ward, should be working to elect those four candidates and educating voters about them.

But they’re not. Why?

"Kings of the Court": a look at the Celebrate Petworth 3x3 basketball tournament

The tournament was expanded this year to provide scholarship awards to the high school, middle school and female student-led teams who could most effectively dominate Petworth Park’s outdoor basketball court.

The Advisory Neighborhood Commission 4C meets on Wednesday, June 8th at 6:30pm the Petworth Library. Inside is the draft agenda for the meeting, subject to change (for example, there's been an incredibly painful back and forth over including the Code of Conduct proposed by Commissioner Jonah Goodman, so hopefully that one stays in the agenda).

The third annual Celebrate Petworth Festival was a great time! The musicians were amazing, the vendors were great (the Petworth History tent was packed!), the cutest dog show was, well, cute, and the 3-on-3 basketball game was great to watch. A lot of talented kids (and some not-too-shabby adults, either).
