Budget approved for Roosevelt HS pool to open for public use

The DC Council has passed two votes so far on approving additional funding for the construction and other changes needed to open the pool at Roosevelt High School for local residential use. Another vote and Mayoral approval still need to be done.

It’s easy, Kathleen says, because the DC Government makes it easy! Under the city’s Zero Waste DC program, there are compost drop-offs at farmer’s markets in all eight Wards. Materials accepted there include fruit and vegetable scraps, coffee grounds and tea, grains, beans, cereals, eggshells, and cut and dried flowers. Just drop off your food waste every Saturday from 9am to 1pm and be on your way.

Pleasant, have been converted to miniature art installations. (There’s one on 16th Street that has tennis balls stuffed inside.)

Wammie Weekend will start with a Day Conference on Saturday, March 30th and culminate with The Wammie Awards show on March 31st. The DC-focused award show has celebrated DC-area artists and musicians for their artistic works over three decades.

No one is arguing that this legislation is a panacea for affordable housing or rising tax costs. Yes, renters are feeling the same financial pressure as homeowners. We can and should do more for renters. And we can and should look at increasing benefits through programs such as Schedule H. However, we ignore the plight of homeowners who cannot qualify for these programs at our own peril.
The District must decide if we are to have a government that responds to the needs of all our residents or one that shuns the concerns of our middle class.

A maintenance worker is currently stuck on the towers up by the Fourth District police station.
Reportedly, the worker went up the tower at 10am this morning to do maintenance. Around 1:30 this afternoon he made a distress call, saying he was suffering from hypothermia.
