What you're thankful for this Thanksgiving

“Cultivate the habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because all things have contributed to your advancement, you should include all things in your gratitude.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

I asked readers to send in some thoughts on what they’re grateful for this Thanksgiving season. Here are some of the comments… the last one is mine.

I have adopted the practice of being in a daily state of gratitude and thanksgiving, but during this season the lens is magnified. When we gather with family and friends to kick off the holiday season on Thanksgiving, it's a beautiful time of fellowship. It's a time to slow down and appreciate the people and the small things that make you smile and bring you comfort. This season I am thankful for my health, a clear mind and the love and well being of my family. Everything else is icing on the cake! Be well & enjoy... Lois, Petworth / Brightwood

Thankful for my family. Lenora

For any of you out there that might read these comments, and for the man behind the curtains at Petworth News, I am personally thankful for him. Your own Drew and I have known each other for over 25 years at this point, and I am thankful everyday that he is still in my life. Thanks, brother! Mike

I'm thankful for the men and women who are working today, so that everyone else can also enjoy the holiday. God bless the police, fire department, doctors, nurses and grocery store clerks! Paula, 16th Street

I'm thankful for my health and the love of my family. Anonymous, Petworth

I am thankful for my family and our friends, both near and far. Knowing they are here, with us and for us, is a comforting thought, even though we may not chat on a regular basis. Alvin

I'm far away from my family, and I'm thankful for my friends around me. Will

Thankful I’m not working Thursday! (and I’m grateful for those who are). Anonymous

It can be a hard life, and seeing people on the streets on holidays seems more painful than other days, since holidays are supposed to be with family and are supposed to be safe. Take everyone around you and wrap your arms around them so tight, they’re what you should be thankful for. Mary, Kennedy Street

I’m blessed to have a wonderful wife, great (grown up!) kids, and a house to call home. Darnell, Brightwood

Happy to have great friends! Kevin, Capitol Hill

I’m so thankful for our new son. Anonymous, Petworth

I’ll be happy when the 2020 election is over. Anonymous

I’m grateful there are people who work hard for us. People like the police, the Council, our ANCs and you, Drew! Thank you to everyone! Amy, Petworth

I’m thankful for everyone who reads, likes, shares and supports Petworth News! I’m even more thankful for my amazing wife, my daughter, family and friends, my job, fraternity brothers, and the blessings of a life worked hard. Drew, Petworth News

Be sure to make some holiday cards for veterans and check out the Art & Craft Fair on Upshur Street on December 14th!

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
