MPD officers pursued and arrested two assailants to the 800 block of Upshur early this afternoon after a stabbing that occurred near the corner of Webster and Georgia Avenue.

From what I was able to find out, a young man was assaulted by two men after getting off the bus at Webster Street. He was thrown to the ground and subsequently stabbed (non-life threatening). The two assailants then ran off.

A neighbor told me that later in the afternoon he saw three young men that he's familiar with and seen many times in the area walk up along Upshur Street to the corner by the barbershop at 9th Street. After hanging out and talking for a bit, the three men then headed down toward 8th Street along Upshur when MPD showed up in force along Upshur and in the alley between Varnum and Upshur. Allegedly, the three ran behind 809 Upshur Street (the soon-to-be-home of Timber Pizza) and scrambled up and over the old chainlink fence.

Small walkway along 809 Upshur, and the fence behind it leading to the alley.

MPD found the suspects after bringing K-9 units, and flushed the three out from under the back porch of an 8th Street home. Two of the assailants were arrested by MPD, and after being questioned on-scene, left in handcuffs in different vehicles. The third man was not arrested.

According to a neighbor, two of the three men have been known to hang out on Upshur Street, and one used to live near the corner of 8th and Upshur with his mother (she has since moved to a different house).

Maybe related or not, but there was a robbery/assault earlier in the day of an elderly gentleman who lives around the corner from Upshur on Georgia Avenue, and there was some unsubstantiated speculation that it might have been the same young men responsible.

Crazy. Below is the official MPD release:
