Introduction
Dr. Antoine Kirby here. Currently, I provide facilitation of advocacy and research for early childcare educator’s access to equitable; teacher education preparation programs, high quality early childcare education, credentialing, compensation, and licensing regulations. As Chair of the Education Committee of the DC Branch of the NAACP my duties are: ensuring all students have access to an equal and high-quality public education by promoting school resource equity, increasing teacher quality, promoting parent engagement, and enhancing early childhood literacy initiatives. Improving the effectiveness, accountability and accessibility of the DC public school system. Promoting affirmative action and funding equity in higher education. Lobbying to maintain and expand financial aid and PELL grants for higher education. Striving to eliminate education related racial and ethnic disparities.

What's a hobby or something fun that you are interested in?
Vintage cable knit/ 2-door SUVs/ stamps/ and Millennials Surviving DC - the board game

What are your qualifications?
I'd honestly say that I've already been representing our community the majority of my life. Respectfully. I grew up in the house I reside in and my household was a founding member of the The 900 Shepherd St. Coalition. My neighbors will tell you. They are the ones who convinced me to run. I've served as Chair of the Education Advisory Council for the Office of Ward 4 Councilmember Brandon Todd, where I advised on legislation, policy initiatives, programs, community engagement and advocacy strategies. In my role on the Infant/Toddler A.A. Advisory Group in collaboration with the UDC Community College Education Program advocating for educational needs in Wards 7 and 8, I created a community-based pre-college support and preparation resource program for early childcare workers.

What are the ANC meetings?
4C meets online via Zoom at the moment.

Are you going to hold SMD meetings?
Can't say the where and quite possibly the when until after the election? As a newly created SMD as a result of the recent Census, I'd have to get back to y'all with that. Monthly

Do you attend other meetings?
I haven't in years; however, I'd be at them all as your Commissioner.

Antoine’s Priorities
Early-childhood education; healthcare; senior care; rats (seriously) I've organized many a full sweep for rats on the 900 blk of Shepherd with the Dept of Health and will expand that.

Earlier this year in the 2022 Primary, 8,069 residents of Ward 4 elected me to the office of Ward 4 Committeeman for the Democratic State Committee of the District of Columbia

Resident hit by car at Grant Circle reinforces need for greater pedestrian safety

Unfortunately, a Petworth resident and teacher at EL Haynes was struck by a car on Tuesday morning on Grant Circle. While she's ok, the collision once again points out the need for greater efforts by DDOT and ANC 4C to find a workable solution for pedestrian, bicycle and driver safety along the corridor. An ANC that votes against options for safety, such as those outlined in DDOT's Livability Survey draft recommendations, is not just short-sighted, it's dangerous.
