A birthday pavilion, a "teen lounge" and lots of swings coming to Petworth Playground

DPR plans to completely renovate both the little and big kids playgrounds, regrade the field and install a larger stage with a pavilion roof, upgrade the splash park, improve ADA access throughout the park, and install an outdoor teen hangout area with swings and other “passive movement” structures.

DDOT will close three miles of Georgia Avenue on Saturday, October 5th from 8am until 6pm for their “Open Streets” event, being held from 10am until 2pm.
Bus routes, no parking and towing enforcement will all be affected.

Petworth used to have a post office on 9th Street. Even if the people who worked there weren’t always the nicest, it was convenient. When it closed in 2015, people wondered what was going to come next. Condos? A new business? In 2017, we found out it was going to be a youth pre-adjudication center run by the DC Courts. And now, it’s getting ready to open.

On Monday September 16, 2019, two incidents of gun fire impacted our community near 4th and Taylor Streets. In total, 40+ rounds of bullets were shot in the direction of a house and/or individuals in our community. Bullets hit several houses and the community is scared and angry.

This morning started nice, then police, helicopters and ERT (DC’s version of SWAT) closed down Georgia Avenue between Hamilton and Kennedy Streets (5200 to 5300 Georgia Ave) due to a man with a gun, allegedly barricaded inside 5320 Georgia Ave.
DC Police report no injuries and that no one is in danger.
