Jared Fackrell really likes cider. I mean, apples are definitely his thing. The 32-year old former Navy officer has been brewing his own cider at home for years, and with the changes to the brewery laws in DC, he recently decided to take his passion to a new level and open a cider house and restaurant in Petworth. The new place is called Capitol Cider House and will be located at 3930 Georgia Avenue NW, beneath the Fahrenheit apartment building.

Uncensored DC: The Library takes a creative approach to Banned Books Week

Censorship is never acceptable in a democracy, which is why the DC Public Library is celebrating Banned Books Week with a creative campaign called #UNCENSOREDDC. The theme this year is “Texts Against Tyranny,” and the Library is doing a scavenger hunt and hiding books that have been censored at one time or another across the District, along with a cool fundraiser in the Dupont Underground. Banned Books week is September 24-30th. Details inside.

A faulty meter or a leaky toilet... which is the culprit for high water bills?

Last week Petworth News published an article about Petworth residents who discovered inordinately high water bills after DC Water replaced their water meters. One resident, Jonathan Nobil, had a water bill showing more than 29,000 gallons being used last month -- water he contends they didn't use. 

Now there's talk that it may be a faulty meter causing the problem. 

DC Water followed up with an email to Mr. Nobil on Thursday afternoon with a veiled threat, and to Petworth News with an angry email suggesting we not publish a follow-up.
