Commemorate Memorial Day with a tour of the first National Cemetery, right here in Petworth
/Join President Lincoln’s Cottage and the Armed Forces Retirement Home (AFRH) for a guided tour of the United States Soldiers’ and Airmen’s Home National Cemetery on Monday, May 26th.
The Soldiers' Home National Cemetery is notable for being the first national cemetery (established in 1861) and for serving as the final resting place for John Logan, who formalized Memorial Day celebrations in 1868.
Free guided tours of the cemetery and a wreath-laying ceremony at Logan's mausoleum will highlight the history of the Soldiers' Home Cemetery, notable people buried there, and the history of Memorial Day.
10am — Wreath Laying Ceremony at John Logan’s Mausoleum (free)
10:45am & 12:30pm — Cemetery Tours (free)
