The Urban Garden Division of DC’s Department of Parks and Recreation is offering over fifty free garden workshops through September 30th, and they want you to join them. Their "Summer Garden Series" has over 50 gardening classes, composting workshops and interactive events going on over the summer and into the fall.) With events happening around the city, many are happening nearby at Raymond Rec Center.

I'm walking back from Slash Run and the Petworth Dance Project Fundraiser when I come across two of the largest pigeons I've ever seen just hanging out on the sidewalk. Huge pigeons. And they just stare at me. "Hello!" one said. Uh... what?

So I said hello back (it's only polite, afterall).

With housing prices continuing to rise in Petworth and the surrounding neighborhoods, and the increase in new residents every month into the District, the cost of rent is an important factor for those seeking a realistically affordable place to live.

Walls of Books hosts a fundraiser for DC African American Legacy Foundation

Walls of Books, the new community bookstore on Georgia Avenue in Park View, is hosting a fundraiser for the DC African American Legacy Foundation (DCAALF), on Saturday, June 25th from 6-9pm. A percentage of money raised going to the DC Books to Prisons project (“Programs like ours are one of the few options available to prisoners seeking books.”).

The Advisory Neighborhood Commission 4C meeting on June 8th was as interesting and at times as tumultuous as any of the meetings this year have been. The main sticking point for this meeting was Commissioner Jonah Goodman's effort to approve a Code of Conduct for ANC 4C. Also at the meeting, At-Large DC Councilmember Elissa Silverman spoke about her team's projects and successes with vacant and blighted properties, commissioners gave various updates and Goodman also got the updated Grant requirements passed.
