A collapsed retaining wall gets attention from DCRA and the Mayor's office

A collapsed retaining wall at Illinois Ave and 8th Street

On Friday I tweeted out a picture that a reader sent me of a collapsed retaining wall that has been blocking the sidewalk at 8th and Illinois Ave for the last two weeks, according to the reader who contact Petworth News.

Both Councilmember Brandon Todd and Jasmin Benab from the Mayor's Office of Community Relations and Services (MOCRS) responded, and Jasmin arranged for a DCRA inspector to survey the property on Saturday. The inspector put up caution tape and said that there's no immediate safety threat (just an eyesore and the mess is blocking the sidewalk).

DCRA is trying to contact the owner to get the wall repaired.

If you're the owner, let's get this fixed. If you need help, reach out to Jasmin and see if the city can offer assistance.

Hat tip to Amy W for sending the photo.
