Oktoberfest at the Old Soldier's Home

It's time to dig your dirndl and lederhosen out of the closet, and get ready for the annual Oktoberfest celebration at the Armed Forces Retirement Home (sponsored by the Friends of the Soldier's Home). It's on October 4th, and kicks off at 9am.

I've gone to the Oktoberfest at the AFRH for a few years now, and it's a great time. Good food, great polka band and good beer. And lots of neighbors hanging out with the veterans on a wonderful Familiennachmittag (family afternoon).

Gates open at 7am, there's an antique car show at 9am (look for them driving around the neighborhood), a golf tournament, a petting zoo, and drinking, food and dancing begins at noon.

To get in, arrive at the Randolph Street gate off of Rock Creek Church Road. Parking is a $5 donation. Don't forget blankets or a chair... but they ask you leave your pets at home. Prost!
