Local resident Alex Morse, who works downtown at Voice of America, was shot on Tuesday as he was leaving a restaurant near 1st and Kennedy just after noon on New Year’s Day. His friends have set up a GoFundMe to help cover costs.

Alex was the innocent victim of an argument taking place between two groups on the street just down the block on Kennedy that escalated. One of the men involved in the argument pulled out a gun and fired the weapon, just as Alex was leaving Jackie Lee’s. Alex was struck in the head. According to WTOP, he was “conscious and breathing when he was taken to a hospital, and is now in critical condition.”

MPD reports that a 20-year old man from Northeast DC has been arrested and charged with assault with intent to kill.

If you want to help Alex with hospital and recovery costs, you can donate money to the GoFundMe campaign set up on his behalf.
