Holiday Lights has winners in Petworth for best festive decorations

Midlands on Georgia Avenue goes all out with their decorations!

Holiday Lights is an annual celebration of the season that encourages residents to visit local businesses. Sponsored by District Bridges, this yearly event features local businesses decorating their storefronts, creating a festive look across the city.

This year, several local Petworth businesses won awards for their designs and festiviness!

Lulabelle’s Sweet Shop on Upshur Street took “Best-in-Show” for Petworth with their amazing window display.

“The true aim of Holiday Lights this year is to rally residents District-wide to support our small businesses this holiday season, in whatever ways they can,” explains Brianne Dornbush, Executive Director of District Bridges. “Local businesses are the heartbeat of the District.”

People’s Choice winners were determined by online public voting, while the remaining categories were selected by judges on each corridor.

DC Holiday Lights continues through January 8, leaving plenty of time for residents to experience the award-winning displays and explore all thirteen participating commercial corridors. To further incentivize residents to explore businesses outside of their own neighborhoods, the corridors have organized a DC Holiday Lights Scavenger Hunt.

“We are very happy and enjoyed seeing the customers walk by taking pictures and saying ‘beautiful’ or [taking] a quick stop for a little chat,” shares Nina, co-owner of Phở Việt—winner of Best in Show for Columbia Heights.
