Resident makes free "ear savers" for essential workers who wear masks - here's how to get one

Some of the crotched ear savers

A Petworth resident has started crocheting “ear savers” for healthcare workers, grocery store employees, delivery people, mail carriers and others who have to wear face masks all the time, and are finding their ears hurt from the elastic.

“In an effort to do my part during this pandemic I have decided to put my crafting skills to use and help anyone who is experiencing pain from wearing a mask,” said Glisedia Perez. “I’m making these crochet ear savers to help anyone who wears a mask for long periods of time.”

Instead of putting the mask’s elastic straps behind your ears, you can use the ear savers instead by hooking the elastic to the buttons behind your head.

“These are completely free and I have a batch ready to be picked up now,” Glisedia said. “I will be making more throughout the week so anyone interested can email me!“

Glisedia is making two sizes at the moment: Medium (4.75 inches) and Large (5.75inch).

She is offering them for free to those who need them, using a “no-contact porch pickup.” She’s located on Buchanan Street near Grant Circle.

Email Glisedia if you’re interested!
