Dia de los Muertos at the Petworth Market Sat Oct 29th, community procession on Nov 2

The Petworth Arts Collaborative is hosting El Dia de los Muertos on Saturday, October 29th at the Petworth Farmers’ Market (9th & Upshur).

From PAC:

Join us on Saturday October 29th at 9am at the Petworth Farmers’ Market for a community ofrenda, altar-making workshop. You are invited to bring a photo of a loved one or other memento to make your own ofrenda (altar) with an option to add to our larger community ofrenda (altar).

There will be a Dia de los Muertos inspired print-making demonstration, crafting, and an educational talk in Spanish and English about the tradition of Dia de los Muertos. At 12:00-Noon there will be a live Mariachi-led community procession to the Petworth Library, bringing the community altar there to be on display until November 2.

You are also invited to bring your own small altar to the October 29th Farmer's Market to be displayed in business windows along Upshur Street and Georgia Ave NW or to create your own ofrenda on your porch/in your window for community viewing.

We end this beautiful holiday on Wednesday November 2 with a community procession starting at 6pm from the Petworth Library. We will walk on Upshur Street to view community ofrendas (altars) on display in local shops, followed by a candlelit walk through Petworth to be in community and remember our loved ones lost.
