Learn to be a mentor and tutor for DC kids at the Petworth Library
/On Saturday, August 23rd, DC Tutoring & Mentoring Initiative (DCTMI) is hosting a volunteer information session from 12:30pm-1:30pm at the Petworth Library (4200 Kansas Ave NW). This one-hour session is a great opportunity to learn what is involved with volunteering to mentor local kids — and commitment of only an hour or two a week!
RSVP for the session to learn how you can give a local student much needed help and make a real difference in their life by volunteering for only an hour or two a week. You can volunteer as a mentor, tutor or coach for elementary, middle or high school students.
They need volunteers year-round: during the summer, fall and spring to support the youth in Petworth and throughout DC. You get to tell DCTMI when you're available, what age group you'd like to work with, and whether you want to mentor or tutor, and they’ll work to find an easy way to get you involved.
You do not need a college degree to be a mentor or tutor — just a good heart and a willingness to be a reliable, caring adult in a student's life. RSVP to learn more >
They have opportunities in the mornings, afternoons, evenings and on weekends. Volunteers can help in a traditional tutoring environment or more flexible mentoring programs. DCTMI partners with over 50 non-profit organizations across more than 100 locations in DC and the surrounding suburbs.
