Join DC Tutoring & Mentoring Initiative and your neighbors either on Saturday, January 20th at Petworth Library from 11am-12pm, or on Sunday, January 21st from 11am-12pm at the Josephine Butler Parks Center (2437 15th St. NW) to learn about getting involved as a volunteer tutor or mentor to kids in Petworth or Columbia Heights (or around the DMV) who could use an extra caring adult in their life! RSVP to either event through the Eventbrite links below:

Founded in 2016, DCTMI has recruited more than 4,000 volunteers in 2023 for our 50+ nonprofit partner organizations and schools at farmers markets and other outdoor events and spaces. Some of our partners include Reading Partners, College Bound, and Latin American Youth Center (LAYC). These volunteers go on to serve through our partner organizations as “big brothers and sisters,” mentors to help high school students navigate the challenges of young adulthood, tutors to help elementary school students improve their reading and math skills, and much more.

If one out of 10 adults in DC got involved, every student needing more academic or non-academic support could have at least one extra caring adult in their lives. An hour or two a week could have a transformative impact on the student’s life and help create a vibrant, safe, and equitable community that works for everyone!

Together, we can make a difference in the lives of students, strengthen our schools, foster a sense of community, and create a brighter future for all residents in our city.
