Check out the renovated Roosevelt High School on Saturday, Jan 30th

Roosevelt High School has been undergoing renovations for a long time, and has been the source of some community frustration, as current Roosevelt students have been stuck over in MacFarland Middle School. MacFarland had a host of problems that DCPS and the city finally fixed after some loud parent and community complaints.

Now DCPS is inviting parents and members of the community to tour the renovated school.

Join the Celebrate Petworth Festival steering committee next week

The Celebrate Petworth festival is becoming one of the biggest events in Petworth. Now going into its third year, they're looking to volunteers to join the steering committee and help shape this summer's next festival. (See a photo gallery from last summer's festival.) Ah, the alleys... full of 20 feet of immovable snow (or at least, that's what it seems like). But what about your full trash and recycle cans? When are they going to be collected? DPW is planning on resuming collection on Thursday, with a shifted schedule until February 1st. Here's their press release...

Introducing David Gottfried -- a Petworth Change-Maker -- someone who works to improve our community without public awareness or appreciation. David has been passionate in his work to tell the story of Kennedy Street, of the ways the DC government has been letting blighted properties sit, a corridor stagnate, and a community not receiving the attention it deserves. And his work is paying off.

Elections, Collections and more: ANC 4D January meeting notes

Advisory Neighborhood Commission 4D had its January meeting on Tuesday the 19th. Overall it was a pretty interesting meeting, with Khalil Thompson announcing an office change, DPW acting Director Christopher Shorter discussing snow, trash and ticketing, the FD/EMS Chief making an appearance and a rather quick election of officers.

Ward 4 Council candidates begin to line up...

Candidates for next year's election for Ward 4 Council picked up their nominating paperwork today from the DC Board of Elections. The primary is set for Tuesday, June 14th, and the election is Tuesday, November 8th. It's a Presidential election this year as well (in case you didn't know), so expect turnout to be high. Who's running for Ward 4?
