Bill White, owner of Fish in the Hood, is in the hospital and his family could use your help

Bill White is an awesome guy. I first met him several years ago at his restaurant Fish in the Neighborhood on Georgia Avenue in Park View. Known as “Fish in the Hood,” the restaurant is one of the best places in DC to get fresh seafood. The popular restaurant has gone through ups and downs, a fire, issues with his landlord and still has stayed open to serve the community.
Bill is in the hospital with a lung infection and collapsed lung, and doesn’t have insurance. His step-mother has organized a GoFundMe to help cover costs.

Rufino Bautista, former Executive Chef at Estadio and Asia Nora, had long dreamed of opening his own restaurant where he could be the boss and serve the dishes he loved.
He knew exactly the type of cuisine he would serve: northern Spanish. And he knew what he would name his restaurant: Atxondo, after the Basque city where he had the best meal of his life.

After its inaugural success in 2019, Open Streets returns to Georgia Avenue on Saturday, October 2nd from 10am to 3pm. Three miles of Georgia Avenue — between Barry Place NW and Missouri Avenue — will be closed to cars. Instead, residents can walk, bike, run and scooter in the street. It’ll be the first of a series of Open Streets events that will be held across all eight wards in 2021-2022.

My Single Member District 4B05 is bisected by Missouri Avenue, a large physical divide between the two halves of my SMD. For things like requesting parking zones on my block or finding out how to get speed bumps, I’ve had to deal with two SMD Commissioners and two ANCs.

Several years ago I was out on a walk with my new baby. It was a bright sunny day, and I saw it. Something large and shiny. I knew what it was: a pizza oven.
That baby who saw the pizza oven with me is now five and started kindergarten a few weeks ago. The pizza place at 701 Kennedy Street is still not open and the likelihood of that happening has decreased to near zero.
