It’s all about the neighborhood
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and as a recent breast cancer survivor and Petworth neighbor, I thought now would be a good time to tell my story and raise awareness of this all too common disease.

She initially made masks to help cover her family and to keep them safe from the epidemic. She then started to make masks for her friends and extended family, to make sure that they were safe. Friends started to make large requests that never abated, and she realized that her hobby could become monetized and help fund her retirement.

Backyard Smoke Spot evaded closures because of its in-house convenience store. Mr. Braxton took a hit in sales due to Covid but has since largely recovered. Tsehay is still struggling and never saw tangible support from the promotion of Black-owned restaurants.
Read MoreThis past July, the Armed Forces Retirement Home (AFRH) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the DC government which set out the process to redevelop about 80 acres of its 272 acre campus. While a date for groundbreaking has not been set, the original redevelopment plan was approved in 2008, and then amended in 2018. AFRH will resubmit the master plans for review again later this fall.

This year, due to the pandemic, they’re asking the community to submit videos to show their appreciation for the men and women who gave their time to defend our country.
“We invite members of the Petworth community to submit videos for them and share them with the Lincoln's Cottage team. We will edit the videos we receive into one meaningful video for the veterans to enjoy on their senior TV.”
