The oldest DC resident according to the DCOA is Betsy Stanford, a Ward 4 resident who was born in 1903. A group of Petworth business owners have sent a letter to the DC Council in support of the redevelopment to create more housing density in the neighborhood.

7th armed robbery possibly connected to recent spree

A seventh armed robbery, this one involving a handgun, took place at El Don Restaurant (4401 14th St NW) in Petworth on the evening of January 12th. Police are treating this robbery, which occurred at 11:30pm Friday night, as connected to the prior crimes, said MPD Captain Brian Bray.

Crime spree? String of armed robberies leaves one in the hospital

A string of six armed robberies over the last two days – four of them taking place in or near Petworth - have left one man in the hospital and at least seven victims lighter in the pockets. Three of the robberies took place Thursday morning and three took place early this morning. One of the robberies reportedly took place at knife point, and two of the robberies took place at gunpoint. MPD says it is investigating to determine whether the robberies are related.

MPD sends out notice on safer interactions between dogs and officers

According to the Department of Justice, there are approximately 25 dogs shot every day by police officers around the country. That's 10,000 dogs annually. A simple Google search will bring up a plethora of articles about police / pet interactions, with most being sad stories that end with needing a better way to educate police on how to deal with dogs. A dog running at you may be excited to see you, not aggressive; however, the personal safety of an officer is important, and an unknown dog can seem very threatening, no matter the behavior.
