Read MoreAdvisory Neighborhood Commission 4D had its January meeting on Tuesday the 19th. Overall it was a pretty interesting meeting, with Khalil Thompson announcing an office change, DPW acting Director Christopher Shorter discussing snow, trash and ticketing, the FD/EMS Chief making an appearance and a rather quick election of officers.
Read MoreThe January meeting of Advisory Neighborhood Commission 4C was Wednesday, January 13th. The evening was the last night for Commissioner Kathleen Crowley, who resigned her seat on the commission. The ANC voted on new officers, talked about Cornrows & Co, reviewed an upcoming alcohol licensing meeting, talked about upcoming traffic changes at Powell, an agreement for Ruta del Vino and a special exception vote for a developer.

Read MoreI wasn't able to attend last week's ANC 4D meeting in-person, but Commissioner Nancy Roth, 4D Secretary, was kind enough to forward me the Commissions minutes. The biggest issue of the meeting was the proposed PEPCO acquisition by Exelon. The minutes are presented after the break:
Read MoreWednesday’s meeting of the Advisory Neighborhood Commission for 4C was a quicker meeting with a shorter than usual agenda. Highlights were the PEPCO VP getting a frosty reception from residents and commissioners, a Taylor Street developer who made nice with neighbors and a lengthy discussion on next year’s budget.

Read MoreThe November meeting of the Advisory Neighborhood Commission 4D was a good evening, with all commissioners in attendance. ANC 4D has $12,572.80 in the bank — a big deal for 4D that shows their frugality with extraneous expenses has paid off. They've drastically reduced the amount of rent they pay and have decreased other office expenses. Now it’s time to give out some grants!

Read MoreThe November meeting of Advisory Neighborhood Commission 4C was, at least from the commissioners point of view, a calmer meeting than last time. Perhaps having the executive director of the Office of ANCs, Gottlieb Simon, watching with a video camera recording the proceedings helped. From what I hear though, the behind-the-scenes communications between the commissioners continues to be fraught with anger and accusations. Upon his own request, the ANC decided not to accept Taalib-Din Uqdah's resignation as Secretary and he remains in that position.

It’s time for “Better Know a Commissioner!”, my blatant rip-off of Stephen Colbert’s old series. With these interviews, I hope to give Petworth residents an opportunity to learn more about the ANC 4C and 4D commissioners who represent you as constituents. The interviews are voluntary, and my hope is to have all the commissioners do one.
This time I’m pleased to introduce Krystal Branton, the Treasurer of the Advisory Neighborhood Commission 4D and commissioner of Single Member District 4D05 (bounded by Ingraham on the north, Allison Street on the south, North Capitol on the east and 4th Street on the west.

Read MoreANC 4D’s October meeting was interesting for a number of reasons, least of which, but still important, was how calm it was in comparison to 4C. The two most interesting things that happened that night? 1) The commission delayed a vote on a variance to allow the audience time to review a developer’s plans and then asked for public feedback prior to the vote. And 2) the developer clearly heard the public concerns about parking, and came back with a way to increase available parking.
