After a false start on February 1st due to snow, DC Public Schools starts Term 3 with some in-person learning at most elementary schools this week. After months of trying to reopen schools, city leaders have allowed each school through their Reopen Community Corps to develop their own plans. As a result some schools in upper northwest are bringing back a large percentage of their students, such as Key Elementary bringing back 75% of their students.

Through mutual friends and acquaintances, she connected with the PBS show Legacy List, a show about the hidden treasures and heirlooms found while families downsize across America, and they were seeking to feature more black families on the show. DC Corazon is a labor of love — emphasis on the labor, and emphasis on the love.

Love, because corazon means “heart” in Spanish. Owner Josefina A. Darui has adored the shape since she was little, and the small, warm restaurant is covered in them. But love is used also because of what she’s hoping to bring to the area.

“I love DC; that’s one of the reasons that I named my business ‘DC Corazon,’” says Darui. “I want people to know that in DC Corazon everything we make comes from our heart.”

Hen & Fin, McDonald’s newly established southern chicken and fish fry eatery, opened its first location in Waldorf, Maryland, this last January and that neighborhood welcomed McDonald with open arms. Hen and Fin’s customers lined up past the door to grab some smothered turkey wings and sides. Even in the midst of the pandemic, customers have been steadily streaming to the cuisine.

And coming later this January, she’s opening a location in Petworth — in the prior Flip It Bakery location — at 4532 Georgia Avenue NW.

Roosevelt HS pool closer to opening for general public in 2021

Ever since the renovated Roosevelt High School reopened in 2016, the local community has expressed their desire to use the school’s new indoor pool. DCPS wasn’t opposed to the idea, but to make it work would require a new entrance to the building and involving DGS and DPR.

Now, five years later, the pool at Roosevelt High School is on track to be open to the general public in Spring 2021.

DCPS survey shows parents split between in-person or virtual learning as Term 3 approaches

DC Public Schools Term 3 plans are to be announced on Wednesday, January 13,2020.

Initial reports indicate that each elementary school is taking a very different approach: some are going with a hybrid mode (2 days in-person, 2 days virtual) to offer as many families as possible an opportunity to have in-person learning, whereas others are targeting just specific grades for in-person learning and running a lottery for those seats.
