Gun violence affects every person who lives in DC in some way. Some are scared when they hear about a recent shooting close to home, some are grieving when they hear a loved one is killed. 

A group of residents and local Advisory Neighborhood Commissioners came up with the idea of bringing together the community to talk about what neighbors are feeling in a local gun violence summit on Saturday, June 23rd from 10am to 1pm at the Emery Heights Recreation Center (5701 Georgia Ave NW).

The Department of Parks and Recreation has 21 outdoor pools and 11 indoor pools, and they all have the same rules for using them, including what you can wear, what toys you can bring into the water, and what you can do while there. If you don't follow the rules, you could be asked to leave.

That happened on June 9th to a teen that one person said had been doing nothing but sitting on a lounge chair and had not attempted to go swimming, and another witness says the teen was verbally abusive and left on her own.

This will impact vehicle access to Piney Branch Parkway, as DDOT plans to close Piney Branch Parkway to westbound traffic, maintaining eastbound traffic.

A recent article from the Washington Business Journal reports that the Armed Forces Retirement Home (aka the Old Soldier's Home) has decided to bypass the normal comprehensive planning processes in DC for the redevelopment of their property and move forward with redeveloping 80 acres using a "federal action." In fact, AFRH will be the body to give out work permits and certificates of occupancy, not DC government.

Security Camera Rebate hits 10,000 cameras, more than $1.5 million in rebates

The Security Camera Rebate program started two years ago after the DC Council passed the “Private Security Camera Incentive Program Emergency Act of 2016.” The program provides financial rebates to residents, businesses and churches who purchase outdoor security cameras and who make the recordings available to MPD upon request. Since the program started, DC has funded 10,000 cameras from 4,500 requests across the city, mainly to residents.
