DC Mask Protection is creating hand-made cloth masks for area hospitals and caregivers while helping a local garment / dry-cleaning shops generate much-needed revenue.

This is a two-part series looking at the ways local businesses and restaurants are working to stay financially afloat while also supporting community needs. Part one looked at restaurants.

President Lincoln's Cottage draws strength from the Petworth community in a difficult time

President Lincoln's Cottage closed to the public in mid-March and is not yet announcing a reopening date. As easy as it was to make the decision to close — for the safety of the veterans who are our closest neighbors, for our team, and for the whole community — it’s hard to not be able to use the Cottage as a place for people to gather around a shared hope and purpose.

During a global pandemic, someone actually stole a large, heavy... ceramic turtle?

A homeowner on Kansas Avenue NW, near Quincy and Randolph, reported that someone (or a couple of someones?) stole a large ceramic planter from her front yard in the middle of the night. Spring cleaning? You may find pieces of your family history

They say that the only people who like “hoarders” — people who don’t ever throw things out — are genealogists.

It’s because of materials that I found in relative's homes in Petworth and Park View that I've been able to tell stories about my ancestors.

That stress is normal, and one of the best ways to deal with it is to talk it out with a therapist.

Get some great flavor while you're stuck at home (spices, teas and more)

The Spice & Tea Exchange is an awesome little shop that I found in Georgetown a decade ago. The walls are covered in shelves holding jar after jar of spices, spice blends, loose leaf teas, and infused sugars and salts.

The store moved to Frederick last year, so while I don’t have the opportunity to swing by as often, they do offer online ordering. I figured I’d share the goodness of the store with you — and with his store being closed, get him a little support as well.
