Lighthouse Yoga gets a second chance thanks to community support, and a potluck party next week

When Lighthouse Yoga Center was notified by our landlord in August that we needed to be out of our space in 30 days, we were heartbroken. We’re Petworth’s only source for high-quality Hatha Yoga, and we’re DC’s only Kundalini Yoga studio. Closing the studio would present a big loss to Petworth’s quality of life.

But our neighbors weren’t ready to let us go!

The Walder family, long-time Petworth residents and founders of Teatro de la Luna, have offered to let us share their space at 4020 Georgia Ave NW. Teatro de la Luna bridges the gap between the Spanish- and English-speaking communities of our region via Spanish-language theater and bilingual performing arts. They offer workshops, poetry marathons, and plays for adults and children with the goal of promoting cross-cultural understanding. And now they’ll be offering yoga!

Teatro de la Luna isn’t able to accommodate Lighthouse’s full schedule, but classes will be running Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings at 6:30am, Wednesday and Friday mornings at 9:30am, and Tuesday and Thursday evenings at 6pm and 7:15 pm.

Some weekend classes will be hosted by Up Yoga and Wellness at 8083 Georgia Ave in Silver Spring starting in October.

Lighthouse is relieved to be able to continue serving the Petworth neighborhood, albeit in a somewhat scaled-down version. But hopefully more classes will be added after the new year.

Meanwhile, you’ll still be able to take advantage of Lighthouse’s full offerings through Saturday September 22. New classes start at Teatro de la Luna on Tuesday September 25.

Celebrate with a Potluck!

To celebrate the end of four and half years at 4203 9th Street NW – and two years before that on Georgia and Delafield – Lighthouse is inviting neighbors to a Community Potluck on Friday evening, September 21, 6-8 pm. There will be food, music, bubbles, chalk art, and a final meditation to close out the night.
