The Fed City Team at Century 21 Redwood Realty would like to help everyone buy a home [sponsored]

The team at Fed City at Century 21 Redwood Realty understands that for most first-time homebuyers, saving for a down payment is the hardest part. In fact, in the DC metro area, it is extremely hard to dig out from paying a high rent payment each month. But I am here to tell you that you may not need to save 3% to 20% for a loan. You may not need any money down at all. There are grants available in our area that are offering to cover down payment and/or closing costs. I found one that even covers BOTH if you qualify! James Zimmerman offers a powerful musical performance at The Parks concert series [sponsored]

Native Washingtonian and jazz historian James Zimmerman thought for a long time about the music he would select for his “Sunset Sessions at The Parks” performance, a new virtual series from The Parks at Walter Reed.

“I knew I could start with something — for lack of a better term — somber, but when the opportunity came up, I was not feeling very much like an entertainer,” Zimmerman said. The event producers had scheduled the filming for May 30th — but that week, protesters were crowding the streets of Washington, DC, and vigils were held in Petworth, Brightwood, Shepherd Park (and around the world) in honor of the black Americans killed recently by law enforcement. Zimmerman’s full 35-minute set includes several songs from Oscar Brown, Jr., including a powerful rendition of “Brown Baby,” in which Zimmerman whispers “I can’t breathe” throughout the song.

It’s a stressful time and talking helps — Kennedy Counseling meets you online [sponsored]

Virtual therapy is not new to Kennedy Counseling Collective clinicians, but it may be for many community members. Like many businesses, Kennedy Counseling Collective has temporarily closed their office and is offering video therapy for the duration of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“People need more support right now,” says co-owner Marjorie Strachman Miller. “They are afraid, feeling the effects of isolation, and are concerned for their loved ones and community members.”

That stress is normal, and one of the best ways to deal with it is to talk it out with a therapist.

Watching the DC real estate market during the Covid threat [sponsored]

The spring real estate market had started early this year, with open houses normal two weekends ago. The only noticeable difference was more use of hand sanitizer and less hand-shaking. Sellers wonder if they should list their houses later when people are venturing out, bringing more demand.
