Now in its third year, FRESHFARM Market returns on Sunday mornings this fall to The Parks at Walter Reed, one of DC’s newest and greenest master planned communities. This weekly producer-only farmers’ market features produce, meats, prepared foods, locally roasted coffee, and craft beer and cider from some of the area's most popular small businesses, breweries and farmers. Several local Petworth businesses will be in attendance this week, including Qualia Coffee, Capitol Cider House and Timber Pizza. Right Proper Brewing is joining this week for the first time.

The market operates from 10am to 1pm Sundays through October 25. FRESHFARM operates many markets around the region and has created safety protocols for vendors and customers during the pandemic. Masks are required at all times, and patrons are encouraged to shop quickly and practice social distancing.

“With 20 acres of open space preserved in the midst of thousands of new homes and over 535,000 square feet of new shopping and commercial space, healthy living is one of The Parks’ foundational values,” said Mark Simpson, Development Manager with Urban Atlantic, a member of The Park’s Hines-Urban Atlantic-Triden master development team. “Our farmers market celebrates this value, as well our vibrant local business community. We’re thrilled to have so many new and returning vendors and shoppers as the market continues to grow.”

The market will include the following vendors throughout the season (weekly unless otherwise noted):

  • Cannabreeze: Cannabreeze is leading the way in providing local, organic, non-GMO industrial hemp products in Northern Virginia by growing, harvesting, and processing tinctures, creams, juices, and edibles with the benefits of full spectrum hemp oil containing CBD (Cannabinoids).

  • Capitol Cider House: Located on Georgia Avenue near the metro station, Capitol City Cider House curates craft hard ciders with modern flavors. Capitol City Cider makes their gluten-free drinks without added preservatives and only showcases producers within 200 miles of the Capitol building. (Biweekly, Sept. 27, October 11 & 25)

  • Cucina Al Volo: Owners Matteo and Daniele offer an assortment of locally made fresh pastas and sauces.

  • DMV Empanadas: Brothers Nacho Almaraz and Marco Almaraz source local ingredients for their products and make everything from scratch using family recipes.

  • Holly Brook Farm: This farm in Berryville, Virginia raises heritage pork, lambs, pastured chickens, goats, rabbits, heritage turkeys, ducks, and rose veal with GMO free feed from a local farmer, no added hormones, antibiotics, and lots of Vitamin D from the sun.

  • Just AJ’s Foods: Just AJ’s produces plant-based, vegan, gluten-free, and soy-free sausages called “Veenies.” Instead of pretending to be meat, Veenies embrace the flavors of the veggies they use from other Farmers Market vendors by roasting and seasoning them to perfection before casing them.

  • Panorama Bakery: Panorama Bakery sells traditional French baguette, breads, and pastries, including scones and muffins.

  • Pleitez Produce: Pleitez Produce Farm is a family-owned and operated farm in Montross, VA with over 25 years of experience growing high-quality produce.

  • Qualia Coffee: Fresh Off the Roast is a small-batch roastery housed inside Qualia Coffee in Petworth. They carefully source coffee beans from around the world, roast them to bring out optimal flavor and sell directly to customers within three days.

  • Right Proper Brewing Co.: Founded in 2012, this DC-based brewpub takes an innovative approach to small scale, “yeast-forward” craft brewing to produce artisanal ales and lagers in a comfortable, expertly designed casual old-world tavern. In addition to market offerings, Right Proper serves fresh beer and affordable, high-quality American food at their Shaw and Brookland locations.

  • Timber Pizza Company: Timber Pizza Company serves wood-fired pizza using only the freshest locally-sourced ingredients. Though based in DC’s Petworth neighborhood, you’ll see their mobile wood oven rolling around town hitched to a blue 1967 Chevy truck. (Sept. 20; weekly in October)
