Now that Spring has arrived, put these 15 important tasks on your To Do list!

Check your roof.
Look for loose or damaged shingles. Dark streaks from algae are not damaging, but moss needs to be cleaned off or it can cause shingles to lift or curl.

Change your HVAC system filter at least every six months. A clean filter is better for your lungs and it’s better for the system since it won’t have to work as hard.

Have your HVAC / air-conditioning system serviced. A technician can check your system's efficiency, check coolant levels and address any issues before the summer heat arrives.

Open the windows to aerate your home. While they are open, clean the interior window sills, frame and jambs.

Refinish your deck — it may need to be power washed, repaired, and/or sealed.

Siding. Any side of the house that gets little or no sun may have accumulated mold. Use a product like “Mold Armor” that attaches to a garden hose to spray right onto moldy siding.

Clean the gutters. Remove leaves and debris that drop from surrounding trees.

Replace the batteries in smoke and carbon monoxide detectors.

Check fire extinguishers to make sure the needle is in the green zone.

If you have a septic system, have it inspected.

Inspect caulking around bathroom sink, shower and tub.

Vacuum lint from your dryer vent.

Inspect chimney for damage or cracks in the mortar joints.

Repair or replace the caulking and weather stripping around windows, doors, and mechanicals.

If your gas grill has remained idle over the winter months, check burner jets for clogs and obstructions, and be sure that gas hoses and connections are sound and secure.

The change in weather is a great time to make sure your home’s systems are up to date, and safety remains your priority!
