The Department of Parks and Recreation announced today that the Petworth Playground at 8th and Taylor Streets NW will temporarily close on April 19th until April 30th for construction.

DPR and the Department of General Services will be completing concrete work on the spray park. The play areas for 2-5 year old and 5-12 year olds will be closed for safety reasons during the construction, while the teen area, outdoor fitness zone, and the basketball and soccer courts will remain accessible.

When reached for comment, DPR Director Delano Hunter said, “Now that we are in preparation mode for our pools and splash pads, we want to be certain that any punch list items and warranty repairs are resolved before the summer. Our intention is that the community be able to fully enjoy the new splash pad and playgrounds without interruption for the summer.”

According to DPR, the two playgrounds and the grass field will open the first week of May.
